BGHC Exclusive - Inaugural IIHF Global Hockey Forum
Remember when we shared a donation link to send our friends at the Kenya Federation of Ice Sports (KEFIS) to the Global Hockey Forum? Well, BGHC Fam, your good efforts have been rewarded. The Treasurer of KEFIS, Faith Sihoho, has graciously shared a first-hand account of this groundbreaking event in Nice, France.
“Attending the Global Hockey Forum in Nice was an unforgettable experience that deeply inspired me and expanded my perspective on the sport I love.
I had the incredible opportunity to meet some of the brightest minds and most passionate people in ice hockey. It was both humbling and energizing to learn, share, and exchange ideas with people who are shaping the future of the game. Meeting icons like Cassie Campbell and Henrik Lundqvist was an absolute highlight; not only were they gracious, but they also shared powerful insights on leadership, resilience, and the evolving landscape of global hockey.
One of the most eye-opening lessons for me was learning about how to develop hockey in nontraditional regions, including Africa. The sessions helped me understand how to strategize, implement actionable plans, and create policies that can truly help grow the sport in Kenya. It reignited my passion and made me even more determined to contribute to hockey’s expansion back home.
Another memorable moment was taking part in a 5 km run along the Promenade des Anglais, something I don’t usually do! The run, organized by former Swiss ice hockey player Raeto Raffainer, was a fun and informal way for participants to connect and exchange ideas about growing the game. My Kenyan jersey caught quite a bit of attention. Many people wanted it, but I just couldn’t part with it (I treasure it too much!).
I’m deeply grateful to Black Girl Hockey Club for making this opportunity possible. It was more than just a trip, it was an eye-opening journey that strengthened my commitment to developing hockey in Kenya and beyond.”
