Black Girl Hockey Club has established a scholarship program to subsidize the costs of playing hockey for Black women ages 9-18 years old.

Scholarship Tiers

In order to subsidize the costs of playing hockey for Black women ages 9-18 years old, we offer scholarships designed to assist and encourage Black women to pursue their interest in hockey, a sport where they are often underrepresented.

Scholarships are offered annually for those who fulfill the scholarship criteria. These scholarships are designed to assist and encourage Black women to pursue their interest in hockey, a sport where they are often underrepresented. These scholarships will be disbursed three times a year and are available to players all over the globe. In the event that scholarships cannot be distributed due to events or activities being canceled or unavailable, Black Girl Hockey Club will place funds in the Black Girl Hockey Club Endowment for future use.

*Applicants can apply to multiple scholarships but will only be eligible to win a single scholarship once per calendar year.

Scholarship Award

This monetary scholarship will be applied to the applicant’s seasonal cost required by registrant’s club. Recipient must:

  • Be registered on a seasonal hockey team

  • Maintain a 2.3 GPA

  • Have financial need

Bauer Equipment Scholarship Award

In partnership with Bauer Hockey, recipients will receive up to $1000 worth of new equipment. Recipient must:

  • Be registered on a seasonal hockey team

  • Maintain a 2.3 GPA

BGHC U.S. Application Process

Interested students must submit the application with supplemental materials to Black Girl Hockey Club by the deadlines listed above. Applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgment email is not received within two weeks, applicants may contact the Black Girl Hockey Club Scholarship Committee to verify that the application has been received.

Applications can be submitted in 2 ways: by Parent/Guardian of underage child or by Nomination. Applications are considered for US residents as well as International hockey club players.

Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Essay questions must be completed by the student only without the assistance of a parent/guardian. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. Final stage in our application process includes an individual interview between the Black Girl Hockey Club Scholarship Committee and final candidates (with their Parent/Guardian present) over a secure Zoom video conference. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by the Black Girl Hockey Club Scholarship Committee.

Applicants must submit the following documents in order to be considered:

  • *Transcripts/Report Card/Satisfactory Academic Progress report

  • Verification of hockey club registration

  • **Photo of nominee

*For nominators, Transcripts/Report Cards/Satisfactory Academic Progress reports will be collected during the scholarship approval process. Before final approval, parents or guardians will be contacted for consent and approval.

** Award winners will be asked to sign a media release form that allows Black Girl Hockey Club to share their image and story on social media and our website. Images will not be used without consent.

Scholarship Award Disbursement Cycle

The U.S. scholarship and Bauer scholarship awards will be granted as follows:

  • Fall Scholarship award issued: October 1st

  • Winter Scholarship award issued: February 1st

  • Summer Scholarship award issued: June 1st

DEADLINES

  1. Fall Scholarship application deadline: August 31st

  2. Winter Scholarship: December 31st

  3. Summer Scholarship: April 30th
