BGHC Community News (August 2025)

Happy August, BGHC Fam!

We are wishing you all a wonderful rest of the summer and a smooth transition back to school, back to practice, and onto better things. August commemorates Black Wellness and Philanthropy Months.

As we continue our Season of Impact, please consider donating to BGHC this month to sustain our programming for the remainder of the year.

2025 BGHC Canada Summer Camp

Thank you to everyone who made this year's summer camp another success, especially all of the volunteers, organizers, players, and their families.

This year's camp featured 3 members of the Kenyan Ice Lionesses, who traveled 8,000 miles to attend!

Thank you to William Douglas from The Color of Hockey for highlighting the camp.

How the First Women's Hockey Card Inspired a Generation of Players

Continuing with our Season of Impact, we are highlighting some of our community member's work in hockey. Dan Harbridge wrote an article for The Hockey News amplifying the impact of Manon Rhéaume's 1992 hockey cards on girls and women hockey players and collectors alike. Shireen's Pitch

In The Review of Journalism, Soraya El-houni lifts up Shireen's intrepid body of work as a journalist, educator, and advocate. As a racialized woman and visible hijabi in sports, Shireen's insistence on inclusion inspires all who refuse to stick to sports. Read the article in full below.
