Telling Our Stories: A Gathering for Black Girls and Women in Hockey
We’re excited to share that registration for Telling Our Stories: A Gathering for Black Girls and Women in Hockey is open! This is a community-engaged research project led by researchers at the University of Waterloo, exploring the experiences of Black girls and women in hockey.
We’re inviting participants to take part in this impactful work. Participants are eligible if they:
Identify as a Black girl or woman (including those who identify with multiple racial/ethnic identities in addition to Black)
Are age 14 or older
Have participated in hockey in any capacity (e.g., athlete, coach, official, fan, or parent/guardian)
Participants are invited to attend a one-day, in-person event in Toronto (location to be announced) on May 3 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm where they’ll have the opportunity to connect with others, share their experiences, and contribute to shaping more inclusive hockey spaces.
The event will include:
Movement-based activities
Creative, art-based research activities
Small-group “Sistah Circles” discussions
Reflection through storytelling, drawing, or photography
