BGHC Community Narratives

Telling Our Stories: A Gathering for Black Girls and Women in Hockey

We’re excited to share that registration for Telling Our Stories: A Gathering for Black Girls and Women in Hockey is open! This is a community-engaged research project led by researchers at the University of Waterloo, exploring the experiences of Black girls and women in hockey.

  • We’re inviting participants to take part in this impactful work. Participants are eligible if they:

  • Identify as a Black girl or woman (including those who identify with multiple racial/ethnic identities in addition to Black)

  • Are age 14 or older

  • Have participated in hockey in any capacity (e.g., athlete, coach, official, fan, or parent/guardian)

Participants are invited to attend a one-day, in-person event in Toronto (location to be announced) on May 3 from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm where they’ll have the opportunity to connect with others, share their experiences, and contribute to shaping more inclusive hockey spaces.

The event will include:

  • Movement-based activities

  • Creative, art-based research activities

  • Small-group “Sistah Circles” discussions

  • Reflection through storytelling, drawing, or photography

This is more than a research study: it’s a space to be heard, build community, and help inform change in hockey environments across Canada. Register and learn more at the link below.
