Drafted June 2018 by the Dallas Stars, Jermaine Loewen’s hockey career defies expectations. While the economic barriers of hockey could have been a roadblock to the majors, Jermaine was adopted from a Jamaican orphanage at the age of four. He moved to Manitoba, Canada where the Loewens fostered his love of the game and looked up to players of color like P.K. Subban and Wayne Simmonds.
With one more season of WHL eligibility remaining, he will attend Stars training camp in Boise, Idaho this September. Jermaine will return to Kamloops for the season if he doesn’t sign a pro contract and play with the Texas Stars AHL team or with the Steelheads ECHL team in Idaho.
