2018 is the summer of Black hockey excellence! On July 30th, Madison Bowey, defensive player for the Washington Capitals, celebrated his team’s Stanley Cup Championship win with family and friends in Winnipeg. He ate pierogies out of the Cup and hung out with fans in his local community. Madison recently signed a two-year extension with the Capitals.

On August 4th, Kelsey Koelzer, Defensive player for the Metro Riveters, had her day with the Isobel Cup and it was grand. She started out at Princeton, her hockey alma mater, and ended her day at home in Philly, where she posed with fans and Rocky, apparently. Kelsey will play as a Riveter again next season.
Monday, August 6th, Devante Smith-Pelly, right winger for the Washington Capitals, brought the Stanley Cup to Scarsborough, a suburb of Toronto. Devante spent the day taking pictures with fans and sharing his Cup win with the community. In the 2017-2018 season, Devante scored 7 goals in 24 games, 3 of them in the last 3 games of the final series. He recently signed a $1 million 1-year contract with the Capitals.
Madison Bowery and Devante Smith-Pelly will be the 8th and 9th Black players to have their name engraved on the Stanley Cup.
